Is Indonesia Ready for PC-16 Status?

Keliat Makmur

In this audio presentation, Makmur Keliat first highlights the positive government policies and demographic trends that have underpinned Indonesia's economic growth. But what about the next step – i.e., the country's elevation to Post-China 16 (PC-16) status? As Keliat sees it, the fragility of Indonesia's natural resources and its mounting political tensions may prevent the country from reaping the benefits of low-wage industrialization. (Note: Keliat is a senior adviser at the Center for Global Civil Society Studies [PACIVIS], which is a research center affiliated with the University of Indonesia.)
